History of

The church in Stony Stratford was founded in 1657, which makes it one of the oldest Baptist Churches in the country.

During the Commonwealth of Oliver Cromwell there was freedom to worship. With the restoration of the monarchy in 1660, Baptist's experienced formidable opposition to their faith. On occasions worshippers had to escape through the window which is now hanging in the church porch.

Between 1978 and 1985 the church began to experience a renewal of the Holy Spirit. During this time the membership grew significantly. We believe that all the gifts of the Spirit are given, at God's direction, to undertake the church's work today.
